Privacy Notice

BuriedWords is a free word game. You can play without an account. This notice explains the small amount of information the game uses when you choose optional account features.
Information stored on your device
When you play anonymously, the game stores your found words, reveal status, elapsed time, theme preference, and help-screen preference in your browser’s local storage. This information stays on your device and is not sent to BuriedWords unless you sign in and choose to sync your games.
You can remove anonymous game data at any time by clearing site data for buriedwords.app in your browser settings. Clearing site data also removes the saved theme and help preference.
Optional accounts
If you create or use an account, BuriedWords stores your email address, display name, password hash, saved-game progress, and session-token hashes. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, not plaintext. Account data is used only to sign you in, sync your games, and operate leaderboards.
Your display name, puzzle progress, and elapsed time are visible to other signed-in players through the leaderboards. Your email address is not displayed on leaderboards.
Shared sign-in & password reset
BuriedWords can use the shared CrucibleLab-ID sign-in service. When enabled, that service processes sign-in and password-reset requests. BuriedWords uses the verified email returned by that service to connect you to your BuriedWords account; it does not store the provider’s subject identifier.
Deletion & retention
From the signed-in Account panel, choose “Delete account” and confirm to permanently delete your BuriedWords account, server-side saved games, leaderboard entries, and BuriedWords sessions. This does not delete anonymous data kept in your browser or a separate shared CrucibleLab-ID account; clear browser site data and manage that separate account through its service if applicable.
Tracking & sharing
BuriedWords does not use advertising, analytics, sale of personal information, or third-party marketing trackers. The app serves its own code, game data, icons, and fonts from buriedwords.app. Service providers needed for optional account operation process only the information described above.
Changes & contact
We may update this notice when the app’s data practices change. The effective date above will change with an update. For a privacy question, contact the publisher through the BuriedWords website.
